Webb is making steel guitar amplifiers again! This photo shows part of their display with two new colors. The bright red one is covered with that furry stuff that my cat loves to claw, and the muted blue is the more traditional Tolex.
I talked to amp designer John Campbell, and asked him how the new amps differed from mine, which was built in 1978. He says that the design hasn't changed much, but some of the more modern electronic components are more efficient and reliable. Also, he told me that the 4 ohm 15 inch JBL speakers are no longer produced for the masses. They are made specifically for Webb in fairly small quantities, which makes them a bit more expensive than other speakers (but what a sound!).
Webb provided most of the amplifiers used by the band and by the steel guitarists on stage at the show.
